Biography
Visual artist and creative entrepreneur Njabulo Hlophe considers himself storyteller, feeling sole responsibility to share stories of the African continent and showcase place in global conversation regarding various issues surrounding Black bodies and responsibility of imagination within various spaces. His practice aims not to narrowly depict anything particular, but rather inspire further interrogation of themes surrounding Bantu experience. Using paintings to explore his own self and position in greater discourse surrounding art, art history, and role of African storytelling, he drives culture forward by placing African voices squarely within discourse of visual art, inspiring conversation with African communities, and imagining possible futures for African storytelling.
