Kamo Machaba
Pushing Culture Forward
"She sparks conversations that reshape culture through vibrant, thought-provoking artistry."
Biography
Multidisciplinary artist Kamo Machaba specializes in photography, set design, and fashion styling, telling stories in bright, vivid colors. Developing her photographic eye through love for fashion, she found her aesthetic home in editorial and fine art photography where color rules the canvas and lighting is fundamental to storytelling. Her photo series Ready To Eat highlights harmful characterizations and unrealistic perspectives regarding healthy, neat, and presentable hair for African people, playing with wearing food as fashion. She drives culture forward by using art to spark meaningful, necessary conversations, proving artists have responsibility to highlight issues through their work, contributing to shape shifting culture and moving it toward more inclusive, honest representation.
