SHORT CUTS: Lo-Fi Film Workshop

Are you a filmmaker between 18-35yrs with relevant film content (idea) or film making experience (short film, music videos, webs series), from Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

‍British Council in partnership with UK filmmaker Shola Amoo and Mozambican youth project Olhar Artistico, are facilitating a 3 day workshop for young filmmakers in Maputo, Mozambique from 1 - 3 December 2017.

What is it?

This will be a lively workshop on developing the skills of young filmmakers and moving image creatives. Through the workshop participants will investigate film ideas, content and form; develop their projects ideas, and find ways to maximise potential for audience and distribution opportunities.

Course Content:

  • Maximizing digital visibility and impact of short form content.
  • Developing links to various online media and platforms with thematic connections to the content.
  • Analysing digital marketability from pre to post production; looking at the intersection between digital and theatrical release strategies and how they benefit one another.

Who can apply?

Any film or moving image creative between 18-35yrs with relevant film content (idea) or film making experience (short film, music videos, webs series), from Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

Applicants need to submit:

  • What is your film project idea, what is your film content outline, theme and concept?  (400 words Max)
  • What is the form of your project? Short film, web series, and video blog? Why is this best model for your idea? (400 words max)
  • Who is your target audience and why would they engage with your content? (400 words max)
  • Share your online links of your previous film works.

Dates and other requirements

  • Participants are required to travel to Maputo and be there from 30th Nov – 4th Dec 2017; workshop is 1 – 3 December 2017;
  • Participants from Botswana, Namibia and Zambia need to have valid passports; those requiring visas to travel to Mozambique must indicate in their submissions
  • Flights (if required), local transport, accommodation and per diems will be covered for participants
