On April 10, 2016, late summer prevailed as The Nest Space hosted an event to spark a conversation about how travel influences and fuels the creativity of some creative powerhouses.
With a panel consisting of Cherae Robinson (Tastemakers Africa), Loyiso Mzamane (Filmmaker + Photographer), Ferrari Sheppard (Artist, Journalist + Social Critic), Lindsey Appolis (Photographer), Salim El Bey (Travel & Hip Hop: A Cultural Movement With Salim El Bey), Noncedo Charmaine (Photographer) - an intimate conversation unraveled between the panelists and 40 interacting audience members on how best to use and interpret the world in creative work. Questions of authentic representation, cultural appropriation and the responsibility of being a point of contact for others who cannot travel were explored.
As was the importance of realizing what you actually need to create and how travel simply means going out of your comfort zone, not necessarily crossing country borders. Hop on a new bus, and go to a part of your city you’ve never been and bring your camera or notebook - it will spark your creativity and influence your work.
Because travelling - of any range - can be an asset to your work, your audience and your network. #ConversationsOnCreativity.
