We caught up with Khanya Mzongwana, a 27yr old chef, food stylist, writer, restaurant reviewer and recipe developer from New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. Passionate about ingredients and imagining different ways of experiencing them, she started a business with the aims of creating food experiences that are homely, authentic and meaningful.
Off The Wall Pop Up Restaurant was founded by Khanya, an idea which aimed at providing exclusive food experiences all over Gauteng, serving enormous meals paired with a vinyl set prepared by DJ Bubbles. “We started identifying a need to make use of both our skill sets as individuals, I am a chef and my partner is a vinyl DJ and we knew it was inevitable that we’d end up running a business together. We established OTW in June of 2014; we didn’t have much, just a small venue with makeshift furniture and a few cheap decorative items here and there.” says Khanya.
Watch as she walks us through her journey, from owning a business with her mother, getting some much-needed advice from her aunt to coach surfing. We have it all in a Conversation on Creativity.
